Welcome to A Complete Auto. We believe that if you understand the rules it is easier to play the game.
When looking for some to Transport your vehicles, here is a freguently ask question.
Q: Do I need a Broker to get my car moved?
A: No! You do not. A Broker will act as a liaison between you and the actual driver.
Most are advertised as Transportation Companies but are actually just a brokerage firm. Many Brokering Companies do not even have trucks to move your car. They post your vehicle on the Internet in a site that drivers go to looking for loads. The driver will call requesting that load and if it is avaiable they will give it to them. Then you will be contacted by this Driver when he is coming to get your vehicle.
Most reputable brokers will require a Insurance Certificate from the Driver. But the sad thing is that they do not know anything about this driver. More and More Brokers will give it to who ever will carry it the cheapest for them.
The price that you pay out is not the price received by the driver. The broker takes his cut out of that. Many times it is an absorbent amount compared to the amount of work put out. Then they post your load for a very low rate. If your vehicle is posted at a cheap price, chance of it getting moved right away is rare if it gets moved at all.
Prices posted that are reasonable and high enough that the driver can get it for that are picked up immediately. If it is low it can sit there for months. Sometimes never getting picked up. Therefore you get very discouraged and may not get your purchase.
When going directly to the transporter himself. He will be honest and give you a fair rate that he can carry it for. Cutting out the broker fee and in the long run getting your vehicle to you in a timely manner and a resonable price.
How to find out if your Company has trucks or is just brokering.
#1 You must ask for the DOT# when you call in. If they do not have one that is your first clue. If they give you one you still want to proceed and check them out.
Once you obtain the DOT# which stands for the Department of Transportation. You go the the Governments website for the FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) www.safersys.org For more information please feel free to send me a email at carhaulersteve@gmail.com and I will be happy to assist you.
